Downfall Written January 21st 2011 by
Jokpeme Joseph Omode
I was once honoured and feared
But now defeated by the
tribulations of life.
I was overwhelmed and beaten with
merciless blows.
My dreams and visions have been
shattered.
My life is disappearing like smoke;
My body is burning like fire.
I am beaten down like dry grass;
I have lost my desire for food.
I groan aloud;
I am nothing but skin and bones.
I am like a wild bird in the
desert,
Like an owl in abandoned ruins.
I lie awake;
I am like a lonely bird on a
house-top.
All day long my enemies insult me,
Those who mock me use my name in
cursing.
My adversaries and mockers are now
jubilating
And feasting at my downfall.
The lion has fallen! “they said”
I cried out with confidence and
hope
In my languished helpless
situation;
Rejoice not over my fall!
When I fall, I shall arise in glory
and splendor.
When I sit in darkness,
The Lord shall be my light and
salvation
And shame shall cover you all to
grave.
