Age Written August 19th 2011 by

As now the sun’s declining rays
At eventide descend,
So life’s brief day is sinking down
To its appointed end.
A creaking door hangs long on its
hinges
And all would live long, but none
would be old.
Crabbed age and youth cannot live together!
Don’t teach your grandmother to
suck eggs!
For pilgrims here on earth and
strangers
We dwell in the midst of foes;
In the tarnished glory of the earth
Where the earth is weary of its
tear.
Oh no!
There is none so old that he hopes
not
For another year of life.
And those who live longest will see
most.
You are never too old to learn;
You are only as old as you feel,
You can’t teach an old dog new
tricks;
Youth and age will never agree.
Our life is but an autumn day;
Its glorious noon how quickly past!
In will and deed, by heart and
tongue,
Love will light up our mortal
frame.
